Great points and passion. I used to work for the National Wildlife Federation, which has historically and successfully mobilized a very broad coalition of leftie environmentalists united with fishing and hunting enthusiasts to protect public lands and the healthy environment that keeps hunting and fishing possible (and game and fish not poisoned). This can be such a powerful meeting place for so many folks.
They complain when they’re going to lose something like access to the lands, and they should. But they don’t give a shit about the masked ICE agents etc…. Hauling off people illegally!! Some of the most selfish folks on earth seem to be republicans!!
Interesting perspective. I agree that National Democrats appear to have an odd attitude about the 'manly man', the working man, the blue collar, etc. They are weirdly indifferent to the mass of voters who could and would save our democracy by voting Democrat, if asked. This seems to stem from a corporate bottom-line mindset. They seem to view the vote to investment ratio in rural areas as insufficient for the party to waste their time. (Which seems to be idiotic given how close recent presidential races are. Why, pray tell, are they leaving votes on the table?)
In other words, they write off the mass of places and people in this country as unworthy of representation. Republicans do this too, but they pretend to care in order to get rural votes. Then they simply ignore rural voters when in power. Since Democrats don't try and get rural votes at all, Republicans are able to reap rural votes by perpetuating politically deceptive practices over and over. Rural voters may feel enthusiastic about Republicans because they seem to care about them, but the fact of the matter is Republicans never tell them the full story.
If Democrats would take rural voters seriously and disclose all the material information Republicans do not, voters would respond. It is incredibly arrogant for National Democrats to ignore people the way they do. They seem yet to have gotten a clue about reaching out to rural voters.
The only way this is going to happen is through local Democrats doing it themselves. But, I guess rural people know how to make it or make do.

The potential sale of public lands has helped to open up conversations with my conservative friends and family. Keeping our public wilderness areas is a very American ideal and tradition we can all agree on. Stop the Sale!
Thank you, Ryan! I grew up in Montana and have the same aggravations towards mainstream democratic messages and prioritizing only certain states, voters, or a select set of issues. Culture and values are where it’s at.
How can we all combine to prevent sale.
“… will Democrats be smart enough to walk through it?”
No.
